Geoff Ryan – Director
With over 35 years of experience, Geoff is an entrepreneurial senior executive and leader with considerable success as an engineer and manager. Geoff brings to his role a logical, decisive, organised and structured approach, developing well thought out plans and strategically working to achieve goals. Geoff is able to take charge of situations, issues and teams and overcome any problems or obstacles; delivering high levels of drive and an energetic, hands-on approach and demonstrating expressive communication in all media.
A Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), Geoff graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) with Honors from the University of Queensland in 1972. Prior to operating his own business, Geoff held positions extensively in the public domain for Councils including the former Belyando, Boulia, Pittsworth and Beaudesert Shire Councils. He also worked in the private sector for McWilliam and Partners, Farr Evrat Consulting Engineers and John Wilson & Partners. Geoff earlier operated a successful dairy farm for seven years.
Susan Shay – Senior Engineer
Beaudesert-born Susan is Ryacon Engineer’s Senior Engineer. Since graduating from Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) in 1998, Susan has worked predominantly as a Water & Environmental Engineer. Susan’s tasks include analysis and design of drainage, water supply and sewerage issues and infrastructure relating to development projects.
Upon graduation Susan initially worked as a graduate water supply engineer for Comalco at their Bauxite mine in Weipa. Since then Susan has gained experience in a wide variety of areas for employers including Bechtel Australia and George Bourne & Associates. In 2007, Susan returned to her hometown and took up her current position with Ryacon Engineers. She is currently working towards qualification as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).
Angela Harlen – Practice Administrator
Born in the Scenic Rim Region, Angela is Ryacon Engineer’s Practice Administrator. Since graduating from the University of Queensland Gatton Campus with a Bachelor of Business (Agribusiness) in 1997, Angela has worked predominantly in the fields of Human Resources, Account Control and Loss Prevention. During 2000, Angela travelled extensively through Canada and Europe gaining an insight into other cultures and international work environments. In 2007, Angela took time off to be a stay-at-home mum to her three children and has now returned to her hometown and workforce to take up her current position with Ryacon Engineers. Angela’s tasks include all administration, financial and legal tasks involved in the daily operations of Ryacon Engineers. She also offers support to the Director and other staff and helps to contribute to the delivery of professional engineering and project management services.
Jim Costello – Civil Inspector
Jim holds Certificate in Civil Engineering qualifications that cover all aspects of design, construction and municipal engineering, as well as quality assurance systems. He has extensive experience in supervision and inspections of construction contracts.
Jim “retired” from his engineering role at the former Beaudesert Shire Council to pursue his small business interests. He joined Ryacon Engineers in 2010 as civil inspector / technical officer on a casual basis and brings a wealth of experience to the achievement of well-constructed works on site. Jim is a clear communicator who enjoys the respect of contractors and Council inspectors alike, and can assist in delivering your projects.
Neil Winson – Cadet Designer
Neil graduated from Trinity College, Beenleigh, in 2009 and has lived in the Beaudesert area for almost 10 years. He completed his Diploma of Engineering Design in 2011 and is now working towards his Advanced Diploma of Engineering Design at the Gold Coast Institute of TAFE while working full-time for Ryacon Engineers.
Neil is passionate about the engineering industry, and his position at Ryacon provides him with valuable practical experience in the field.
Trinity Ryan – Webmaster
An experienced Instructional Designer and Project Manager of learning and development projects, Trinity has over 16 years’ experience in designing and delivering adult education and websites. She has designed and developed both online and face-to-face courseware for a number of top-tier clients including NAB, Toyota, Avaya and Westpac; she has also completed commercial websites for organisations from Pilates studios to project management consultancies.
